Since Kenny G is said to be influenced by Grover Washington Jr., his albums are usually classified as Smooth Jazz. He also had a long list of collaborators Andrea Bocelli, Aaron Neville, Toni Braxton, Dj Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, Natalie Cole, Steve Miller, Weezer, Michael Bolton, Smokey Robinson and Celine Deon, to name a few. In the mid to late 80’s, Kenny G worked with Jazz and R&B artists such as George Benson, Pattie LaBelle and Aretha Franklin. This single reached number fifteen on the Hot 100 charts and number two on the Adult Contemporary Charts in 1987. This album had hit singles such as “Songbird”, which reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and “Don’t Make me Wait for Love”, which featured vocals from Lenny Williams. Kenny G’s fame and success skyrocketed with the release of his fourth studio album “Duotones”. ![]() He released several albums including “Kenny G”, “G-Force” and “Gravity” which earned him platinum status in America. Kenny G signed with Arista records as a solo artist in 1982. He played with the Jeff Lorber Fusion Band before beginning a solo career. While Kenny G was still in high school, he got his first job as a sideman for Barry White’s Love Unlimited Orchestra at seventeen years old. He attended high school in Seattle, Washington then went on to attend the University of Washington. Kenny G’s mother is originally from Saskatchewan, Canada. Kenny G was born on June 5th, 1956 in Seattle, Washington, U.S.A. He began playing the saxophone at twelve years old. Kenneth Bruce Gorelick is an American Smooth Jazz saxophonist, songwriter and record producer. ![]()
